Axiom Space is no stranger to showcasing spacesuits. In March 2023, the Houston-based aerospace company unveiled its spacesuit prototype for the Artemis III lunar mission. The prototype featured an off-black layer with orange accents and light blue detailing, but the actual suit was hidden underneath, with a reflective white coat.

But Prada’s involvement is just one example of fashion and space coming together. Playtex, known for its iconic bras, designed suits for the Apollo missions, including the one worn by Neil Armstrong during his historic moon landing. Adidas collaborated with Virgin Galactic to create spacewear for commercial space flights, which had a sleek design inspired by space opera aesthetics.

This trend extends beyond spacesuits. In 2017, Coach released NASA-themed accessories such as bags, sneakers, and sweatshirts. Chanel even included a mock rocket launch as part of its fashion show in Paris, complete with space-themed fashion. Gucci’s fall 2017 ad campaign drew inspiration from the Star Trek universe.

As for the Artemis III mission, it is currently scheduled for a tentative launch in 2025. Its goal is to land humans in the region near the lunar South Pole. The four-person crew will embark on this historic journey aboard the Orion spacecraft, atop the massive Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
