New Skoda Scala priced from £22,096 with updated tech and styling

The revamped Skoda Scala has been given a price tag of £22,096 in the UK. The new model comes with a significant visual redesign and updated technology. The booking for this new version of Skoda’s offering, akin to the Volkswagen Golf, will commence on 3 October. This update is the first since the family hatchback was launched in 2019.

The car is available in three different specifications: SE, SE L, and Monte Carlo. The entry-level SE version is equipped with an 8.25-inch infotainment system, wireless smartphone mirroring, LED headlights, and an 8.0-inch digital driver’s display. Other features include 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, and keyless entry.

The SE L trim level offers larger 17-inch wheels, chrome exterior trim, rear privacy glass, a 9.2-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, and interior ambient lighting. This variant starts from £23,895.

Starting at £27,795, the range-topping Monte Carlo models are equipped with 18-inch black alloy wheels, full LED matrix adaptive headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and a rear-view camera. This is the only variant that comes with drive mode selection and sports chassis control as standard.

The revised Scala shares its engine range with the facelifted Skoda Kamiq crossover. The lineup consists of turbocharged petrol engines, starting with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI that produces 95bhp. This engine comes with a five-speed manual transmission. There is also a 115bhp version that is available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG).

Sitting at the top of the range is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI engine that produces 150bhp. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG.

Last year, the Scala was Skoda’s eighth best-selling car. The updated model features design changes such as a new front grille, slimmer headlights, updated front and rear aprons, and new air curtains. Skoda has also increased the use of sustainable materials in the Scala. The roof lining and much of the door trim are now made of natural plant fibers, while the wheel-arch linings and the windscreen’s water reservoir are made from recycled plastic. The upholstery, flooring, and floor mats are made from recycled fabric.
