Experience the Detailed Transformation of a Rare Mercedes-Benz SL500 from the 90s

The Mercedes-Benz SL that was introduced in the United States as a 1990 model was a popular convertible that stood out with its attractive design and comfortable ride. It quickly became a favorite among the well-dressed individuals of the 90s.

The car achieved even more fame when it appeared in the iconic music video for “Return of the Mack” by Mark Morrison. With over 200,000 units sold worldwide, it’s safe to say that the R129 SL-Class was a highly sought-after convertible in its time.

Nowadays, a well-maintained SL500 with a 5.0-liter V8 engine can range in price from $8,000 to $27,000, according to Cars And Bids. However, a unique and rare color could potentially raise the value even higher.

An example of such a rare color is Sunburst Yellow, which was reportedly applied to only 12 SL500 units sold in the United States. In the embedded video above, the experts at the I AM Detailing YouTube channel showcase their skills as they meticulously clean every part of this German convertible, restoring its shine and beauty.

Although the car was already in good condition, the detailers go above and beyond by blasting the underbody with dry ice, thoroughly washing the exterior, and applying protective measures against the elements. They also clean and protect the black leather interior, which exudes a distinct 90s charm.

The result is truly remarkable. The vibrant yellow paint shows no signs of micro scratches or imperfections, thanks to the detailing process. It’s worth noting that the car in the video appears to be a post-1998 model, featuring updated rounded tail lights and body-colored door handles. These models are equipped with a 302 horsepower, 24-valve V8 engine, introduced toward the end of the 90s. Previous SL500s were powered by a 32-valve V8 producing 322 hp.
