The Rimac Nevera has officially claimed the title of the fastest car in reverse, according to Guinness World Records. The Nevera achieved a speed of 171.34 miles per hour while driving backward, surpassing the previous record set by the Caterham 7 Fireblade over two decades ago at 102.58 mph.
This remarkable feat was made possible by the Nevera’s unique drivetrain. The electric vehicle is equipped with four custom-made permanent magnet, oil-cooled electric motors—one for each wheel. This allows the EV to generate full power both in forward and reverse motion. Rimac has connected the front and rear wheels to a pair of single-speed gearboxes, enabling the Nevera to outpace the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, which has a top speed of 161 mph when moving forward.
