Mitsubishi has made the decision to end local car production in China due to a weakening demand in the competitive market. The company plans to withdraw its investment in the joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group, according to a report by Nikkei Asia.
GAC Mitsubishi Motors, which was established in 2012 as a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Guangzhou Automobile Group, experienced a peak in sales in 2018 with 140,000 units. However, deliveries dropped significantly last year to 38,550 units, a decrease of about 60% compared to 2021. Production at the factory in the Human province was already halted in March 2023, and Mitsubishi does not intend to resume operations.
