2023 Honda Civic Type R Review: Average Performance in Moose Test

The moose test is a crucial evaluation to assess a car’s responsiveness when the driver needs to avoid an obstacle. Although encountering a moose on the road is rare, this test effectively measures a vehicle’s maneuverability. The test originated in Sweden during the 1970s and gained notoriety in 1997 when journalist Robert Collin flipped the original A-Class car, resulting in a major setback for Mercedes. As a result, Mercedes had to recall all sold vehicles and suspend deliveries for three months.

A Spanish magazine called km77 carries on the tradition by subjecting the newest cars to the daunting moose test. After testing the standard Honda Civic back in November 2022, the magazine recently evaluated the high-performance Type R version. Surprisingly, the Type R did not impress the reviewer. The maximum entry speed without hitting any cones was only 46 mph (74 km/h), which was lower than the standard hatchback’s achievement of 48 mph (77 km/h).
