Volkswagen Virtus GT Line Gets More Affordable With New Entry-level DCT Variant

The Volkswagen Virtus’s DCT option gets Rs 2.37 lakh more affordable

  • It is priced at Rs 16.20 lakh, which is Rs 70,000 less than the GT+ MT variant.

  • Exterior highlights include red callipers and “GT” badges.

  • Inside, it gets red ambient lighting and GT-specific upholstery.

  • Features on board still include a 10-inch touchscreen, cruise control and dual airbags.

  • Powered by the larger 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 150PS of power.

Shortly after getting an affordable GT manual variant, the Volkswagen Virtus has now been given a new entry-level GT DCT trim priced at Rs 16.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is more affordable than the range-topping GT+ DCT by Rs 2.37 lakh, while costing as much as the Topline AT variant of the sedan.

Variants

Price (ex-showroom Delhi)

Topline AT

Rs 16.19 lakh

GT DCT (new)

Rs 16.19 lakh

GT+ MT

Rs 16.89 lakh

GT+ DCT

Rs 18.56 lakh

The GT DCT variant costs Rs 70,000 less than the GT+ MT, thus becoming the new entry-level variant in the GT Line. Furthermore, the Topline AT uses the 110PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 6-speed torque converter.

Any Noticeable Changes?

While the GT variant gets the same treatment on the outside as the GT Plus (which includes the red brake callipers and “GT” monikers), you can tell it’s the lower trim since it doesn’t get the blacked out alloy wheels and the chrome windowline. On the inside, the Virtus GT DCT gets the GT-specific upholstery and red ambient lighting, which is also available on the GT Plus variants.

Differences In The Features List

Being a lower variant, the Virtus GT DCT misses out on features such as a single-pane sunroof, digital driver’s display, leatherette upholstery, rain-sensing wipers, auto-headlights, LED DRL turn indicators, height-adjustable front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, and auto-dimming IRVM. Its equipment list isn’t totally scarce either as it still packs cruise control, a 10-inch touchscreen, paddle shifters, and auto AC with rear vents.

Its safety kit includes dual front airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and rear parking sensors. In case you’re worried about the extra airbags, the Virtus is also currently rated as the safest mass market car in India as per the Global NCAP crash tests.

Performance Under The Hood

As the GT Line product, the GT DCT features the larger 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (150PS/250Nm). While it gets just the 7-speed DCT, the manual GT variant gets a 6-speed unit. This engine also features cylinder deactivation technology that can boost your fuel economy while cruising at steady speeds.

New Kia Seltos Teaser Gives Us A Detailed Look Of The Updated Interior

The facelifted SUV with new features and more technology is set to launch on July 4

The facelifted Kia Seltos is ready to be launched early next month and after multiple spy shots of the compact SUV, the carmaker has finally released its first official teaser which gives us a glimpse into its cabin. The 2023 Seltos will get multiple updates over the current model, and here are the ones we spotted in the teaser:

Best Glimpse Of The Cabin So Far

The teaser starts with a close-up of the ORVM and then we get the silhouette of its front profile and the sleek new LED DRLs. But the most important part of the teaser comes when we get a look inside the facelifted Seltos. The updated compact SUV gets an integrated display setup with a touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital driver’s display. The steering wheel looks more or less the same but the dual-zone climate control unit below the new central AC vents has been redesigned.

The last shot of the teaser gives us a look at the new LED tail lamps of the compact SUV.

What We Already Know

The facelifted Seltos will get features like a panoramic sunroof and ADAS, which have been confirmed by multiple spy shots. It will also retain features like ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), from the outgoing model.

Powertrain

The new Kia Seltos will likely carry forward the same engine options as the current model, which gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine (115PS/144Nm) paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox, and a 1.5-litre diesel unit (116PS/250Nm) mated to either a 6-speed iMT or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The carmaker could also add a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine to this mix, replacing the 1.4-litre unit which was discontinued earlier. This engine, also seen on the Kia Carens, makes 160PS and 253Nm, paired with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

Price and Rivals

Kia will launch the facelifted Seltos on July 4, likely at a starting price of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will renew its rivalry with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor and the upcoming Honda Elevate.

# Best Spy Shots For The Week Of June 26

*Motor1.com* provides spy shots of upcoming vehicles almost every day. If you want to stay updated on what’s coming, here’s a list of the recent glimpses of development vehicles from the past week.

The RS6 E-Tron is an upcoming high-performance version of Audi’s electric sedan. In the photos, this particular model is equipped with side cameras on stalks instead of conventional mirrors.

2024 Ford Explorer Spied In Platinum And ST Trims Without Camouflage

Ford is currently working on the updated version of the Explorer, and it seems to be progressing without any camouflage. Our spies have managed to capture some more pictures of the SUV on the roads of Dearborn, Michigan, and in Colorado. This time, they were able to get shots of the ST and Platinum trims.

The refreshed Explorer boasts a revamped front end, featuring slimmer headlights and a rectangular-shaped grille. This is a departure from the current trapezoidal styling with sharp corners. The ST trim presents a black mesh grille, while the Platinum trim showcases a metallic finish on its lower sections.

Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup Teased Before July 13 Debut

Ineos has released a teaser for their upcoming Grenadier Quartermaster pickup, which will be revealed on July 13 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The truck will also participate in the hill climb event at the festival.

The teaser image showcases the back of the truck, featuring circular taillights similar to those seen on the Grenadier SUV. The tailgate proudly displays the “Grenadier” wordmark.

Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance

The Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance is the most powerful S-Class yet, with 791bhp and 1055lb ft of power and torque. However, this increased power comes with the downside of adding 309kg to the car’s weight, bringing it to a total of 2520kg.

Equipped with AMG’s nine-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive system, the S63 E Performance can go from 0 to 62mph in just 3.3 seconds.

Although its performance numbers are impressive, the question remains: can this larger and heavier S63 deliver the same level of engagement and dynamics as its highly rated predecessor?

The S63 E Performance offers seven different driving modes: Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, and Individual. This provides the car with incredible versatility for various driving conditions. In everyday driving, the Comfort mode utilizes both petrol and electric power sources to offer a refined and urgent experience on the motorway, giving the impression that there’s always more power to spare.

Switching to Sport+ mode unleashes the true sledgehammer performance of the S63 E Performance, with the electric motor’s torque compensating for any lag as the turbos spool up. This results in acceleration similar to that of a supercar, thanks to the 4Matic+ system and electronically controlled limited-slip differential that provide outstanding traction and determination when applying full throttle. However, due to the combination of two separate gearboxes and the 4Matic+ system, there can be some unruly shunt, particularly at low speeds and when accelerating quickly.

Watch Formula 1 Drivers Show Their Skills by Driving Monster Trucks

There is a common belief that in Formula One, it is the car and not the driver that determines the winner. People think that the technology of the car overshadows the skill of the driver. However, this assessment is unfair, as it ignores one crucial fact – F1 drivers are incredibly talented and can excel in driving any vehicle.

To prove this point, Red Bull, the owner of the Red Bull and Alpha Tauri F1 teams, organized a challenge between two-time world champion Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda using monster trucks. An F1 car, with its low center of gravity, weighs around 800 kilograms (1,760 pounds) and is powered by a small 1.6-liter engine that produces approximately 1,000 horsepower. It relies on aerodynamics for speed and can accelerate from 0 to 100 mph and back to 0 in less than five seconds.

In comparison, a monster truck has a very high center of gravity, making it susceptible to tipping over. Its large V8 engine generates about 500 horsepower, and each wheel weighs around 700 kilograms (1,540 pounds). Yes, you read that right – each wheel weighs slightly less than a modern F1 car.

Unlike F1 cars, monster trucks do not prioritize aerodynamics; instead, they rely on grabbing air when launching or jumping over obstacles. Both Verstappen and Tsunoda were surprised by how loud the trucks were, how bumpy the ride was, and the amount of dirt that sprayed into the cab as they raced around the track at the bottom of the Erzberg Mine in Austria.

Right from the start, Tsunoda demonstrated his speed, skillfully maneuvering the blue and white Ram truck around the course in 58.3 seconds. It was an impressive time, but Verstappen proved to be even faster, completing a lap in just over 55 seconds. Regardless of the vehicle – whether it’s an F1 car, monster truck, or a Honda HR-V – the two-time world champion consistently showcases his remarkable speed.

In addition to their dominance in the F1 world, Red Bull is also a master of social media publicity. Their YouTube channel features various extreme sports and puts their F1 drivers in captivating situations, such as off-roading an F1 car in Australia to herd cattle or commuting from New York to Miami.
