Comments after the DTM season opener:

Björn Lellmann (Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport): “Unfortunately, it was a rather mixed start for us in the DTM. On Saturday, thanks to a superb strategy, Marco Wittmann could have achieved a clear victory, but he unfortunately lost it due to a team error. However, Sheldon van der Linde fought for the podium until the end, and René Rast also scored points by finishing seventh in both races. Sunday’s qualifying didn’t go well, but all three fought back, and with P6, P7, and P10 in the end, we’re really satisfied. Congratulations to the successful BMW M Motorsport teams in the ADAC GT Masters and ADAC GT4 Germany. With pole positions, wins, and the podium, they really impressed.”

Torsten Schubert (Team Principal Schubert Motorsport): “After qualifying, I said: If we have all three cars in the top ten I’m satisfied. We achieved that on Sunday. I’m pleased that we could take these points. It’s not only important to win races, but also to collect points. We knew this weekend that the track wasn’t quite optimal for us. Nevertheless, we were able to show consistent race performances with all three cars. The retirement of Marco on Saturday due to fuel issues was frustrating. Now we have to continue collecting points throughout the season, starting with the Lausitzring.”

Sheldon van der Linde (#31 Shell BMW M4 GT3): “I think it was a really good weekend. The car didn’t really suit this track and, considering that, we had very good results with fourth and sixth. It was definitely unexpected considering where we ended up last year with basically almost not getting into the points. I am very proud of the guys, the strategy was clearly the key point in the race. At the end of race two, we jumped like five or six cars. I am generally very happy with the points this weekend.”

René Rast (#33 RoboMarkets BMW M4 GT3): “It was a challenging weekend, especially on Sunday. For some reason, we didn’t have the pace in qualifying. Still, it was seventh place in the race, just like on Saturday. We scored points twice, but, of course, that’s not what we envision. We want to fight for podiums. But we knew that Oschersleben would be a tough track for us. So we made the best out of it.”

Marco Wittmann (#11 Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3): “It was, of course, frustrating that due to an error on Saturday, which is human, we threw away the victory and 25 points after we had taken the lead through the right call, strategy, and a bit of luck. On Sunday, nothing went right. We didn’t have the pace; the balance was very difficult. So, it was just about finishing the race, but there wasn’t really anything to gain. It was a tough weekend.”

What People Who Actually Drove The Cybertruck Are Saying

Tesla Cybertruck deliveries began with a big event on Thursday. The company only delivered a few pickups, so they won’t be seen everywhere just yet. Due to the lack of a press department at Tesla, only a few publications have had the chance to test drive the Cybertruck. However, those who did seemed to be impressed. Let’s see what they think of the Cybertruck.

“It’s exterior is actually the least outrageous part of Tesla’s new creation.”

Jason Cammisa’s in-depth review delves into the features of the Cybertruck. He explains that the truck is more than just a lifted Model S with a metal body. The review covers the battery technology, steer-by-wire system, and the update to a full 48-volt architecture. Cammisa also highlights its impressive speed, agility, and safety features. He is particularly impressed with how it drives and handles, despite the unconventional steer-by-wire system. Additionally, the steel construction makes it extremely rigid and safe in the event of a crash.

“The Cybertruck is a rolling sci-fi film prop from the dark recesses of Elon’s brain that makes little sense but takes edgy and wedgie to a whole new level.”

Top Gear features an interview with Tesla’s Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen and Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy. They discuss the Cybertruck’s development process, including its inspiration from the Spy Who Loved Me submarine Lotus Esprits. While the truck can stop subsonic bullets, Moravy refrains from claiming it’s fully bulletproof. The review emphasizes the truck’s stiffness and impressive acceleration for its weight.

“There are some surprising things about it; some features that are really cool; things I think truck people are really going to like, but also some concerns I have, some surprises.”

Marques Brownlee, who drove a pre-production Tesla Cybertruck before its debut, highlights some concerns with the vehicle, such as large or uneven panel gaps and the practicality of handle-less doors in icy conditions. Despite the concerns, he acknowledges the truck’s cool features that truck enthusiasts are likely to appreciate.

Four Mercedes-AMG One Hypercars Seen Testing Together

Mercedes recently started delivering the AMG One hypercar, but it seems that testing of prototypes is still underway. A total of four prototypes were spotted at a rest stop in Granada, Spain, accompanied by a GT 4-Door Coupe in the 63 S variant from Affalterbach. This sighting is special because the F1-engined hypercar will be a rare sight, with only 275 customer cars being produced.

It is unclear what Mercedes was testing, considering that production of the One began over a year ago. The possibility of a successor hypercar has already been ruled out due to the challenges of meeting emissions regulations. With the Euro 7 standard coming in 2025 and the increased stringency of emissions regulations, it is unlikely that another F1-inspired car for the road will be developed. However, the hybrid technology developed for the AMG One could potentially be utilized in future performance models from AMG, even though the 1.6-liter V6 engine might not be used again in a street-legal car.

Roland Sands and Royal Enfield Unveils Custom Super Meteor 650 at Sturgis

The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, celebrating its 83rd anniversary this year, officially began on August 4, 2023, and will continue until August 13, 2023. One of the highlights of the Sturgis festival is the Motorcycles as Art exhibit at the Buffalo Chip. It was at this exhibit that Royal Enfield and Roland Sands Design introduced the very first Super Meteor 650 custom build ever showcased anywhere in the world.

The unveiling of the Royal Enfield x RSD chopper was quite dramatic, as shown in the Instagram video shared by both Enfield and RSD on social media. The bike was concealed in a large wooden crate featuring the Royal Enfield logo. Without any fancy light show or smoke, Roland Sands opted for a burnout to forcefully break open the crate and reveal the bike. The front wall of the crate fell off, while the remaining three walls formed a backdrop for Sands to showcase the bike and pose for photos.

The custom Super Meteor 650 built by Roland Sands showcases a striking black and gold color scheme, with several hand-built components crafted by the RSD workshop. The bike stands out with its custom engine covers, foot controls, bar risers, and more. While an official release date for the US market has not been announced as of August 7, 2023, the Super Meteor 650 is already available in other global markets, including India and the UK.

The bike features an Öhlins front fork and rear shock setup, no front brake, and a predominantly matte finish on the paintwork. The frame and the top of the tank surrounding the gas cap have a glossy black finish, while the engine cases, side covers, tail piece, and bar risers are all matte black. Matte gold pinstriping and flames add a touch of style to the design, with a small gold pinstripe design beneath a glossy clearcoat finish on the top of the tank.

If you’re attending Sturgis 2023, you can get a close-up look at this bike by visiting the Motorcycles as Art exhibition at the Buffalo Chip. The exhibit opened on August 5 and will be open until August 10, 2023, from 3 p.m. to midnight every day. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this custom Super Meteor 650 and other exceptional motorcycle art if you’re in the area.
