Watch an Old Ford Taurus Outperform Porsche, BMW, and McLaren on the Race Track

The classic Ford Taurus SHO continues to impress even after being on the road for over 30 years. Imagine attending an open track event in 2023 with your McLaren 720S, only to find a first-generation white Taurus right behind you in the rearview mirror. While the Taurus didn’t overtake the McLaren, it did pass other drivers, as shown in the video above.

The video is courtesy of Adam Hartlmeier, who is a well-known enthusiast of the SHO. Adam and his wife Michelle own several first-generation models, including two of the four Ninja Turtle SHO race cars that participated in the IMSA Firestone Firehawk series in the early 1990s. However, the car featured in this video is a different white 1990 SHO that has been modified for track fun.

By “comfortably modified,” we mean that there are no extravagant modifications such as turbochargers, superchargers, or nitrous oxide. The car features a mostly stock 3.2-liter SHO V6 engine, producing around 250 horsepower at the front wheels. It has coilovers, upgraded 13-inch brakes, and has been stripped down to weigh approximately 2,600 pounds.

The video was filmed at the Blackhawk Farms track in Illinois. It captures the McLaren 720S and the Taurus SHO racing together, with the Taurus keeping up with the McLaren in the corners but falling behind on the straights. However, the Taurus manages to overtake several other cars, including Miatas, a Chevrolet Camaro, a Ford Mustang, and even a BMW E30 and a Porsche Cayman.

Adam Hartlmeier highlights the fact that the SHO is a dedicated racer, while most other cars at the event were street cars designed for both track and street use. It’s impressive that a car originally designed for comfortable transportation can outperform cars with significantly more power on the track. Many people are surprised by the SHO’s speed, making it one of the most unexpected performance cars.

Honda Ridgeline, Toyota Tundra More American-Made Than F-150, Silverado: Study

The annual American-Made Index report by Cars.com has been released, ranking the 100 vehicles with the most content from the United States. While Tesla dominates the top of the list, there are interesting findings in the pickup truck category, which is one of the most popular vehicle segments in the US.

In this year’s American-Made Index, the Honda Ridgeline ranks ninth, making it the only pickup in the top ten. The Toyota Tundra is close behind in twelfth place.

The Cars.com ranking is determined based on five factors: final assembly location, percentage of parts from the United States and Canada, countries of origin for engines, countries of origin for transmissions, and manufacturing workforce in the United States. Each vehicle is ranked on a 100-point scale, with tiebreakers determined by curb weight.

This methodology explains why vehicles like the Hyundai Santa Cruz can rank higher than the Chevrolet Silverado, which is commonly regarded as a quintessentially American pickup. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provides information on all criteria except for the manufacturing workforce.

2024 VW Tiguan Rendered With Sleek Body After Recent Teaser Images

The Tiguan, which was originally launched in 2007, is one of Volkswagen’s most important models. However, it has been experiencing a decline in sales in the last three years, indicating the need for a new generation model. Volkswagen has been diligently working on the third-generation Tiguan, and now we have a pretty accurate preview of what this vehicle could look like.

The renderings above, provided by Kolesa.ru, show a sleeker-looking model compared to the current Tiguan. These digital drawings are based on recently released teaser images of the crossover, which featured a completely camouflaged prototype. As can be seen from the images, the new Tiguan will have a less boxy design and will adopt an ID.4-inspired front fascia with sweptback LED headlights connected by a LED strip.

In addition to its improved aesthetics, the new Tiguan will also be slightly larger than its predecessor. Volkswagen has already announced that the MQB Evo-based vehicle will be 32 millimeters (1.25 inches) longer, with a total length of 4,551 mm (179.1 inches). It will also be 5 mm (0.2 inches) taller, measuring 1,640 mm (64.5 inches). However, the width and wheelbase will remain unchanged at 1,939 mm (76.3 inches) and 2,681 mm (105.5 inches), respectively.

The updated exterior look will feature new HD matrix headlights, a first for the Tiguan. While the renderings don’t provide a detailed view, each headlight cluster will have 19,200 micro-LED elements, allowing the unit to illuminate the road up to 500 meters (1,640 feet) ahead.

Details about the powertrain options of the new Tiguan are still limited. However, it is expected to offer gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid engines, as well as front- and all-wheel-drive versions. The 2024 Tiguan is anticipated to be the final Tiguan model with a combustion engine, as Volkswagen plans to cease offering ICE-powered cars in Europe by 2033.
